Sedum Propagating Techniques

Conducted by: Linping Wang, Mary Jane Clark, and Youbin Zheng

Objective: To develop protocols for propagating difficult Sedum species in green roof plant production.

Description: In the green roof industry, specific Sedum species are sought after due to unique leaf colours or plant forms. For example Sedum hispanicum 'Blue Carpet' is desired for both its blue-green leaf colour and its compact, mounding growth habit. However, it is reported that there are some challenges in propagating this species during production. Currently, we are investigating different propagation methods, including using a plant growth regulator, and different covering techniques, for a few Sedum species which are difficult to propagate.
